KUCHING, Aug 15: Limbang District Council (MDL) and the Cat Rescue Club (CRT), in collaboration with the Veterinary Services Department, organised the Rabies Awareness Programme for the second time this year in Limbang District to raise public awareness about the disease which is still lacking.

According to a news report published today by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), MDL mayor and CRT chairman Sufian Mohat stated that the organisation this time has improved compared to the previous one, which only involved the distribution of rabies vaccines in specific areas but lacked reaching the community in terms of awareness.

ā€œWe are calling the Cat Rescue Club to join us in organising ā€œMerdeka Fun Cat Show 2022ā€ to raise awareness that it is not only dogs that are at risk, but also other animals such as cats and so on,ā€ he said at a press conference after officiating at ā€œMerdeka Fun Cat Show 2022ā€ in Bunga Raya Village Hall in Limbang on Saturday (Aug 13).

Earlier in the day, the Limbang Division Health Office hosted a rabies awareness talk titled ā€œRabies Disease and How to Deal with Pet Bitesā€.

Meanwhile, Sufian revealed only three cases of rabies have been recorded in Limbang District since 2020.

ā€œWeā€™re also grateful that there havenā€™t been many cases of rabies in Limbang. Only three cases have been detected in Limbang district since 2020.

ā€œSo it is still safe for us in Limbang District. We just want to give the community exposure so that they can work together to care for their own pets so that they (pets) are not free outside and (the owners) always do the proper health checks and administer the rabies vaccine for their respective pets, especially dogs and cats,ā€ he explained.

The two-day ā€œMerdeka Cat Fun Show 2022ā€ saw 67 entries from cat owners across Limbang District. ā€” DayakDaily
