KUCHING, June 29: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng has reported that two rabies-positive cases occurred this week in Kuching, one involving a stray dog bite in Malihah Phase 2 and the other involving a pet dog bite in Lorong 7, Upper Chawan Road.
In a proactive effort to combat the ongoing threat of rabies, the city of Kuching is launching a series of free vaccination drives for dogs.
The initiative, supported by local municipal councils, aims to curb the spread of the deadly virus among both stray and domesticated animals.
Wee reminded pet dog owners that the ‘Free Anti-Rabies Vaccination, Licencing, Microchipping, and Subsidised Neutering for Dogs’ programme, which took place today from 9am to 3pm at the parking lot of the basketball hall at Kota Sentosa, will be held again next Saturday (July 6) from 8.30am to 4.30pm at the Sungai Apong Basketball Association Hall.
“We have been working diligently, increasing our vaccination drives from twice to four times this year to ensure the safety of our community and their pets.
“We encourage all pet owners to bring their dogs, especially those older than three months and not pregnant, for vaccination and microchipping.
“We aim for zero rabies cases and a safe environment for everyone,” he said during his weekly ShallWeeTalk live today.
Pet owners are further encouraged to take advantage of the free vaccination opportunities to avoid potential penalties and ensure their pets are protected against rabies. — DayakDaily
