KUCHING, March 9: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has urged community leaders to quickly identify the installation points of streetlights in their respective areas within the constituency so that implementation can be planned and carried out by relevant authorities without delay.
This is in connection with Yap’s allocation of RM1 million from his Rural Transformation Project (RTP) funds to install additional streetlights following numerous requests from residents in Kota Sentosa.
He also called for the close cooperation from all stakeholders to play their part in ensuring that the installation of streetlights can be carried out and completed speedily.
“This will assist Sesco on the installation of RM1 million worth of streetlighting in N12 Kota Sentosa to be completed on time and on schedule.
“Any unnecessary delays will defeat the objectives of the Sarawak government in providing adequate streetlights in N12 Kota Sentosa which are important as it will increase visibility, promote road safety for drivers and pedestrians and can also discourage night time theft or violence,” he said in a statement today.
He raised this during a meeting between community leaders and representatives from Sesco, Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication to ensure smooth implementation of the streetlight projects at his service centre in Gala City today.
Yap emphasised that he is committed to using the RTP funding allocated to the constituency for people-centric projects to upgrade and improve infrastructure and amenities.
“N12 Kota Sentosa despite being an urban constituency has been left behind during the last fifteen years and it is critical that basic infrastructure be urgently improved and upgraded,” he added.
