KUCHING, Aug 24: The government-mandated Quality Assessment System in Construction (QLASSIC) for all housing projects has improved the quality of house construction in the country.

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia chief executive (CE) Datuk Ir Ahmad Asri Abdul Hamid, expressed gratitude that the construction industry and other economic sectors were gradually recovering, as the pandemic situation in 2020 and 2021 caused many negative effects, particularly in the construction industry.

ā€œThe quality of construction results is critical because it affects customer satisfaction and benefits building users and homeowners.

ā€œQLASSIC has been introduced by CIDB for building projects based on the Construction Industry Standard (CIS 7).

ā€œThis recognition was developed as a benchmark for the quality of work in building construction,ā€ Ahmad Asri said on Monday (Aug 22) at the opening ceremony of the CIDB 2022 Quality and Safety Day (HAKK) Seminar at the Kingwood Hotel Sibu in Sibu.

Furthermore, he was very proud and honoured that a Sibu Construction Committee (JPSI) was established at the CIDB Sarawak Sibu Branch.

The main goal is to establish a communication platform in the construction industry between the government and the private sector to discuss current issues in the industry, collect industry feedback, and make recommendations to the government for efforts that benefit the industry, the State, and the country.

ā€œIā€™d like to remind construction industry activists once more to always be responsible in emphasising the quality of work and the safety of each worker in all construction projects, no matter how large or small.

ā€œIn order for Malaysia to achieve the status of a developed country, our country requires a greater commitment to higher quality, more efficient, and more sustainable building and infrastructure construction methods,ā€ he noted.

Also present were Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh, CIDB Malaysia deputy CE Sr Zaid Zakaria, Contractor and Levy Sector senior general manager Suhaimi Mansor, Sarawak State CIDB director Saini Saidi, Public Works Department (JKR) Sibu Ir Sim Hui Kheng, and CIDB Sibu branch manager Chuang Kuang Hong. ā€” DayakDaily
