KUCHING, Aug 8: Get ready to put on your walking shoes and join Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng for a pleasant 3km morning walk on Aug 20 and stand a chance to win lucky draw items such as bicycles (folding bike, mountain bike, etc.), laptops, Samsung tablets, and smartwatches.
The much-anticipated ‘Mayor’s Walk’, which is part of the annual Kuching Food Festival (KFF), is back for its fifth year, and people of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to participate in this free event, with 10,000 specially designed T-shirts given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
The ‘Mayor’s Walk 2023’ will take place on Canna Lily Boulevard, MBKS, on Sunday, Aug 20, the final day of KFF, with the flag-off at 7am at the MBKS foyer.
At today’s Mayor’s Walk press conference at MBKS, Wee stated that the event would begin with participants arriving at 5.30am, followed by a brief Zumba warm-up dance for 30 minutes at 6.30am.
“It is a significant component of the council youth, culture, and sports programmes to exercise together towards the Kuchingnite, and it is also in line with the council vision of healthy and smart cities, which aims to improve the overall health and well-being of the community.
“Exercising and, at the same time, taking the chance to spend time with your family are the goals of organising the Mayor’s Walk, as they will strengthen the ties between friends and family, foster community involvement, and foster cooperation.
“We were able to appreciate the greenery in Kuching City while taking part in the Mayor’s Walk and promoting the efforts that all Kuching residents have made to be ecologically friendly towards the rest of the globe,” he explained.
We also expressed our gratitude to the sponsors, namely Ibraco Berhad, 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta, Kuching Love Book Association, Sarawak Energy, Chagee HQ, City Jogger’s Club, and Go Beyond Enterprise, for their contributions.
