KUCHING, Nov 10: A local political pundit claims that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) campaigners are roasting Democratic Action Party (DAP) in Mas Gading and hitting hard at Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in Puncak Borneo.
Dato Peter Minos said the GPS campaigners pointed out the fact that DAP had done nothing for Mas Gading in the last four years, resulting in the voters of Mas Gading becoming an angry lot and now determined to “kick out” the “useless Malayan party DAP”.
“Four wasted years and enough is enough, they all said.
“I saw that there was indeed anger against DAP, not only because DAP did nothing while in Mas Gading for four years, but also the people had painfully realised a terrible mistake was made four years ago in supporting a Malayan-based party that cared nothing for Sarawak and had a totally anti-Sarawak ideology and philosophy,” said Minos in a press statement today.
Citing his experience and observation in Kampung Duyoh where GPS held its ceramah (political talks), Minos claimed that the people of Mas Gading held the view that DAP is good for Malaya but bad for Sarawak and is totally not relevant here.
On the voters of Puncak Borneo, he claimed there there is a mood of reconciliation on the ground.
“They are saying that GPS candidate (Datuk Willie Mongin) is now from GPS and so there is no point talking about him opposing them in the last State Election.
“The past is past and it is time to unite and stay together to win big for GPS, they all said,” Minos claimed.
Referring to his observation at Kampung Sinjok where there was a big GPS gathering, he said similarly, the voters in Puncak Borneo felt that PKR is Malayan-based and has no business in Sarawak.
“PKR cannot even look after itself and is almost leaderless in Sarawak. People who run PKR Sarawak are almost unknown and untested. Do not waste time with PKR,” said Minos, quoting the people of Kampung Sinjok.
He claimed that the mood in Puncak Borneo is that GPS must win big.
“This will be good for Sarawak and good for the Bidayuh community, who are the majority voters in Puncak Borneo.
“It seems to me that, this round, the Bidayuhs are fully determined to totally reject DAP and PKR, and go full swing with GPS,” said Minos.
On the other hand, he said GPS’ Sarawak First fever is catching up among the Bidayuh community.
There are three Bidayuh-majority seats in Sarawak, namely Serian, Puncak Borneo and Mas Gading. In the 2018 General Election, GPS lost Puncak Borneo to Willie, who was then representing PKR and Mas Gading to DAP’s Mordi Bimol. Only Dato Sri Richard Riot of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) managed to retain Serian.
Willie joined GPS just months before the 15th General Election was called and is now standing under GPS’ banner in Puncak Borneo against Diog Dios of PKR and Iana Alam of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).
Meanwhile DAP continues to field Mordi in Mas Gading in a three-cornered fight against Lidang Disen of GPS-PDP (Progressive Democratic Party) and Ryan Sim of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK). — DayakDaily
