Puncak Borneo prison break: All four sentenced to additional 12 months’ imprisonment

KUCHING, Nov 4: The Magistrate’s Court here ordered four inmates to serve 12 months’ imprisonment respectively for prison break.

Diveni Bumby, 36, Bobin Bahan, 29, Mohamad Fikrry Azzarudin Abdullah, 26, and an Indonesian Rahmat Simbolan, 38, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 224 of the Penal Code which read together with Section 34 of the same Code.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi sentenced each of them to a jail term of twelve months, with effect from today.

They were found intentionally making an attempt to escape from the custody of Puncak Borneo Prison which they were lawfully detained, at about 5.11pm on July 1, 2021.

They fled through the toilet window of the prison transit house and ran to the forest near the prison before making their own ways to different destinations.

Diveni was later arrested at a PR1MA housing area at Kampung Sinar Baru, at about 6.25pm on July 4 and Bobin also at Kampung Sinar Baru at about 10.50pm on the same day.

Mohamad Fikrry and Rahmat were arrested at a swamp area near Taman Height Park, at about 2.30pm on July 5.

Prosecuting Officer Insp Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted while the four accused were unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
