MIRI, Oct 30: The Federal Village Committee Management Council (MPKKP) will be the best platform to serve the people and its setting up is not to divide the community as purported by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), clarifies Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon.
“Because this platform (MPKKP) might change the government, and reduce the influence of GPS’s ‘tuai rumah’, that is why they are so scared of MPKKP,” he claimed when met today.
He added that Pakatan Harapan (PH) did not set up MPKKP to take over power, but as it is one of the federal government’s policies to benefit the people of Sarawak.
“MPKKP is more to serve the whole community rather than individuals. It helps the smooth running of federal government programmes and brings community concerns up to the federal level,” he said.
He further added, that MPKKP is good for Sarawak, and is not to destroyed village unity as claimed by GPS.
Dr Ting also claimed the issue started when GPS prohibited the Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKs) and ‘tuai rumah’ from joining functions under the federal government.
“For example, school sports day…they have no one to invite as ‘tuai rumah’ does not come…that means a lot of federal programmes don’t ‘work’ because of that restriction by GPS,” he said.
On the controversial word ‘weapon’ allegedly used by Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary-general Lim Guan Eng when speakingf about MPKKP during the Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) 19th Convention held in Miri last Sunday, Dr Ting stressed that Lim had never said such a word.
“I sat next to him when he (Lim) delivered his talk on MPKKP that day, and he never said that word. He could have implied MPKKP could help the PH government to counteract the influence of GPS and reduce their (GPS) authoritarianism,” he said. — DayakDaily
