Man remanded 7 days to assist in suspected toddler abuse probe

MIRI: A 28 year-old local man who was detained by the police on Monday to assist in investigations into the abuse of a two year-old boy at a house in Jalan Luak Bay has been remanded for seven days until November 5.

Magistrate Md Syafique Md Hilmie allowed the remand application by the case investigation officer.


The victim whom is currently being treated at Miri Hospital has injury marks on his body and has brain swelling.

The boy was rushed to Miri Hospital on October 26 around 12.30am after his mother discovered that he was experiencing uncontrolled muscle contractions.

Earlier, she was told by her eldest daugther that the victim had fallen from the stairs.

According to the case facts, prior to the incident, the victim’s mother, a single mother, had sent her son to the accused’s house in Jalan Luak Bay here so that the accused could help care for the boy.

The accused had been taking care of the child for about two weeks.

The accused and the child’s mother have been in a relationship for four years.
