The Asia Carbon Conference will take place in Kuching in March.

KUCHING, March 9: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will be giving a keynote address highlighting Sarawak’s aim of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and the importance of ESG factors (environmental, social, and governance), forest conservation and sustainability in relation to carbon offsetting to kick start the Asia Carbon Conference (ACC) 2023 on March 15.

The Premier will also be launching the two-day conference – the first industry leadership conference for carbon offsetting and trading in Asia – set to take place on March 15 and 16, at Pullman Hotel here.

Organised by Argus Media in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak, with headline sponsor SaraCarbon Sdn Bhd and supported by Business Events Sarawak and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros), ACC 2023 will set the tone for policy-making, investment opportunities and new technologies in the carbon market.

According to a media release today, the key speakers include Francois Blignaut, carbon project lead at SaraCarbon, who will be discussing a case study of developing and launching a nature based Voluntary Carbon Offset (VCO) project in Asia.

Another speaker to be featured is Wan Sayuti Wan Hussin, head of Strategy and Policy at Petronas, who will be discussing how big energy is approaching carbon as a supplier, buyer, and solution provider.

The final segment of ACC 2023 on March 16 will have a specific focus on carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS), with discussions on Sarawak’s CCUS developments, how investors and developers can build a sustainable CCUS industry, analysing CCUS project prospects in Asia and more.

The conference which will feature global subject matter experts from more than nine countries, is expected to draw around 400 delegates from Sarawak, Malaysia and around the world.

Attendees can gain insights on the regulatory framework on carbon markets and the future of the Asia Pacific carbon market, as well as participating in discussions on the importance of carbon initiatives in managing climate change.

The Asia Carbon Conference 2023 is an ideal platform for industry players, industry experts, private-and-public partners, graduates, and anyone interested in contributing to the carbon market.
