KUCHING, Jan 18: National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loaners affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and flood disaster can now apply for a three-month repayment moratorium.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in his special address on the new economic package at Putrajaya today, said the application for a delay in loan repayment could only be made until March 31.
This is the 12th out of 22 initiatives under the Perlindungan Ekonomi dan Rakyat Malaysia (Permai) Assistance Package introduced earlier, with total value up to RM15 billion.
The package will be implemented based on three main objectives namely combating the Covid-19 outbreak, safeguarding the welfare of the people and supporting the business continuity.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin also disclosed the extension of special tax relief with a maximum of RM2,500 on purchases of mobile phones, computers and tablets.
“The government has seen that various incentives and tax reliefs have successfully stimulated the economy in several sectors.
“In line with the requirements of the new norm which largely depends on the use of digital devices, I would like to share that the special tax relief of up to RM2,500 on purchase for mobile phones, computers and tablets which has ended on Dec 31, 2020 to be extended until Dec 31, 2021,” he remarked.
Similarly on taxes, he said there would also be an extension of the sales tax exemption on both locally assembled and imported passenger vehicles until June 30 this year.
This is to boost sales of passenger vehicles during this epidemic in hopes to drive the momentum of the development of the automotive sector of Malaysia. —DayakDaily
