SRI AMAN, Nov 5: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women chief Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie, will face the incumbent Dato Masir Kujat, an Independent candidate and two others, namely Wilson Esabang of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Tay Wei Wei in a four-corned fight in P202 Sri Aman.

Their names were officially announced by the returning officer Elvis Didit at 11.55am at the Indoor Stadium, Komplek Sukan Sri Aman today for the 15th General Election (GE15).

Earlier, Doris, a first-timer in GE15, was followed by a large crowd of GPS supporters who thronged the nomination centre, waving the GPS flag and cheering her on.

Tagging along with Doris were three state assemblymen, namely Datuk Francis Harden (Simanggang), Datuk Mong Dagang (Bukit Bagunan) and Datuk Snowdan Lawan (Balai Ringin) and their spouses.

Incumbent Masir was the last to enter the nomination centre hall just after 9am to hand in his nomination documents to be checked and scrutinised by the returning officer.

The four eager candidates with their supporters had to wait for almost two hours before they were cleared from disqualification.

The returning officer also revealed and announced the candidate names according to their ballot paper list with GPS candidate Doris coming out top, followed by Wilson, Masir and Tay.

In 2018, Masir won the parliamentary seat under the PRS/BN ticket, garnering 14,141 votes over PKR (Pakatan Harapan) Norina Umoi Utot and the late Cobbold Lusoi of PBDS (Baru), who managed to get 538 votes.

Masir, the incumbent, resigned from PRS and joined PSB in 2019. After the 2021 State Election, he resigned from PSB and became an independent parliamentarian.

The parliamentary constituency has about 50,100 voters. — DayakDaily
