KOTA SAMARAHAN, Nov 5: Abang Abdul Halil Abang Naili (PH-Amanah) is shooting his shot to win the P197 Kota Samarahan seat from Datuk Rubiah Wang (GPS-PBB), who had served the local folk for two terms this GE15.

The 62-year-old, a civil engineer by education background, is the Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Sarawak Branch chairman.

This will be his first time contesting in the parliamentary election.

Meanwhile, Rubiah, 54, had served Kota Samarahan for two terms after winning the 2013 and 2018 general elections and is expected to capture the seat again for the third term.

The two presented their nomination documents at the Kota Samarahan Civic Centre this morning.

At 11am, Election Commission (EC) returning officer Anuar Da’an officially announced their nomination for P197 Kota Samarahan.

Also present was Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president-cum-Asajaya assemblyman Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

In the last GE14, Rubiah collected 25,070 votes against Amanah’s Sopian Julaihi (8,078 votes) and Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) Zulkipli Ramzi (2,719 votes). — DayakDaily
