PRS president Salang not seeking re-election, announces support for VP John Sikie

KUCHING, Aug 23: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum will not be seeking re-election but announced his support for vice president Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai for the party’s upcoming polls this October.

“I’m not seeking re-election, and among the party’s elders, we have recommended John (Sikie Tayai) to be the candidate to hold the stewardship,” he said during a dinner in conjunction with the ‘Jelajah PRS Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) 2025’ programme on Friday (Aug 22).

In addition, Sikie confirmed that Salang had expressed support for him for the party’s top post.

“Yes, he openly declared that I took over the presidency and he also declared full support for me,” he said in a WhatsApp conversation with a reporter, as seen in a screenshot shared with DayakDaily.

Previously, Salang had said that all party posts are open for contest at the TDC. — DayakDaily
