KUCHING, Oct 30: Senator Rita Insol believes that Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) can defend both Tamin and Kakus in the coming state election as the people in the two constituencies had expressed their regret in electing Baru Bian as their Member of Parliament for Selangau in the last General election.
“I believed both Christopher Gira and Datuk John Sikie can win in both Tamin and Kakus (which fall under Selangau parliamentary constituency) respectively as the current MP has not been doing enough for the people in both areas,” Rita told DayakDaily today.
Gira is expected to face off with former PRS deputy president and now a Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) member Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun in Tamin and Sikie is expected to face off with Peter Tuan, also of PSB in Kakus.
Rita claimed that since winning Selangau seat in the last general election, Baru seldom visits his constituents even when he was the Works Minister during Pakatan Harapan’s administration.
“I think voters elected him out of anger with the sacking of Entulu. But I believe the people now have a change of heart and have decided to support Gabungan Parti Sarawak instead,” she said.
Rita, who lost to Baru in the last general election in a straight fight said she held no grudges against the voters but instead continue to serve them.
“I have continued to serve them even after I lost the election. And now with the small allocation that is given to me as a senator, I continue to assist both YB Christopher Gira and Datuk John Sikie. What I’m doing now is to play a complementary role to both YBs to ensure that we can defend both seats for GPS,” she said.
Rita, who is also a lawyer by profession and an oil palm entrepreneur said, her role was also to assist Dayak women to excel in entrepreneurship.
“There is a lot that needs to be done to assist Dayak women to empower them so that they too can achieve their dreams,” said Rita. — DayakDaily
