SRI AMAN, July 6: A multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) belonging to the Lubok Antu District Police Headquarters (IPD) was involved in an accident at Kilometer 5 of Jalan Sri Aman, opposite the Sentosa Indah Housing Estate, today.
Acting Sri Aman District police chief DSP Zuriawati Zainal Abidin said the accident was reported to have occurred around 10am this morning involving a team vehicle (Proton X70) from IPD Lubok Antu with a Peugeot car.
She said the police vehicle was believed to have crashed as a result of trying to avoid a Peugeot vehicle which was said to have been trying to perform dangerous overtaking moves.
“The initial investigation found that the incident happened when the driver of the car who came from the direction of Sri Aman market was about to head to Kuching.
“The car is said to have cut off the vehicle in front and entered the opposite lane and hit the rear right side of a team vehicle from IPD Lubok Antu, type X70, which was moving from the opposite direction,” she said in a statement today.
No injuries or fatalities were reported in the accident.
She added that the case was investigated under Rule 6 (1) Ln 166/59 (Overtake Dangerously).
“Other road users are advised to be careful when driving for the sake of mutual safety,” she said. — DayakDaily
