MUKAH, Jan 19: Nectar Consortium Sdn Bhd has proposed to set up the Nectar-KoIKMa Agrotech Hub in Mukah to develop the agriculture sector and strengthen food security in Sarawak.

Its managing director Ahmad Tarmizi Mukhtar said the hub comprising smart farming, agrotech lab and agro incubator, will be a collaboration between Koperasi Warga Institut Koperasi Malaysia (KoIKMa) Berhad and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Mukah.

“The objective to launch the Nectar-KoIKMa Agrotech Hub is to establish a development centre for basic agricultural technology while strengthening food security.

“This will also benefit UiTM students and its academic fraternities to learn from industrial players and key stakeholders,” he said in a statement today.

Additionally, the hub aims to create an ecosystem based on four main factors, namely productivity, technology, supply chain, and training, that upgrades and improves the socio-economic standards, food safety, and knowledge among cooperative members.

The initiative, Ahmad Tarmizi said, is part of the company’s efforts to inspire digital innovation and create sustainable opportunities which support the Sarawak government’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 initiative
