Property devt company director pleads not guilty to misappropriating RM833,000

KUCHING, June 5: A director of a property development company pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here today to charges of misappropriating funds amounting to RM833,000 from the sale of a shop lot.

Chien Chai Ung, 67, entered the plea before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali after the charge was read to him under Section 403 of the Penal Code.

The section carries a penalty of imprisonment for not less than six months and not more than five years, along with whipping and the possibility of a fine, upon conviction.

Chien, as the director of the company, was charged with misusing the proceeds from the sale of a shop lot in Mukim Sungai Raya, Kinta District, Perak. The funds, amounting to RM833,000, were owned by two individuals who were the rightful owners of the shop lot.

The alleged offense occurred between Dec 6 and Dec 22, 2022, at a premises located on Jalan Tun Jugah here.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor ASP Arman Ibrahim, while Chien was represented by lawyer Bartholomew Lopez.

During the proceedings, the court granted bail at RM10,000 with one local surety.

Chien was also ordered to surrender his passport to the court.

Case management has been scheduled for July 10, 2024. — DayakDaily
