MIRI, June 27: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasised the importance for Sarawak to continue highlighting the natural goodness and benefits of palm oil to the world so that it will continue to be well received.

At the 7th Palm Oil Technology and Innovations Expo 2019 or Palmex launching yesterday, he said, “Palm oil is one of the least expensive and most popular oils worldwide, where it accounts for one-third of global plant oil production.”

Hence, he urged all industry players to continue working together to promote globally the use of palm oil.

“In recent years, oil palm growth has expanded to South Asia, including Malaysia and Indonesia. These two countries alone currently account for more than 80 per cent of the world’s palm oil supply,” he said. His text-of-speech was read out by Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

Abang Johari said he believed the palm oil industry would bring enormous benefits to both the industry players and the local communities. Hence, he wanted the industry players to include the participation of the local communities in their development and expansion programmes for mutual benefits.

The two-day Palmex, which ends today, is showcasing nearly 80 brands from over 10 countries at Miri Indoor Stadium.

Abang Johari said the Sarawak government was always happy to host international business events such as this, which provides a good platform for palm oil industry players to compare notes and brainstorm ideas and solutions to address challenges facing the industry.

“With the sharing of knowledge and experiences from these palm oil experts, I strongly believe this will bring more improvements and increased sustainability to the palm oil industry, especially in Sarawak,” he said.

Abang Johari also commended event organiser NRG Exhibitions (M) Sdn Bhd for bringing the expo here. — DayakDaily
