SAMARAHAN, Oct 20: Assistant Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Julaihi Narawi is unsatisfied with the work progress of the Kota Samarahan-Sadong Jaya Road and is urging the contractor involved to hasten their work.

Having only completed about 2.2 percent of the work, Julaihi wants the contractor to adopt an effective catch-up plan, while submitting a weekly report at the same time.

“The work by now should be 41 per cent completed, but it is only 2.2 per cent completed and this is something quite serious and a matter of concern.

“So from today onwards, I want the contractor to submit a weekly report (of work progress) and do an effective catch-up plan to expedite and improve the work process,” Julaihi told reporters during his site visit today.

He said the weekly report must be sent to the JKR Unit Head of Coastal and Second Trunk Road Unit (CSTR).

Joining him were the contractor and officers from the Public Works Department (JKR).

Julaihi, who is also Sebuyau assemblyman, also wants the contactor to carry out frequent site visits, and not solely rely on the subcontractor.

Works on the 11.2 km stretch of road started in March this year at a cost of RM14.3 million and is part of the coastal road.

According to Julaihi, about 331km of the 896km total coastal road length is under a road upgrading package costing about RM500 milllion, and divided into 30 packages.

He said of the 30 packages, only two have been completed, while the others are in various stages of implementation. — DayakDaily
