SIBU, Oct 9: Sarawak PKR Women Division wants Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg not to hold the 12th Sarawak State Election (PRN-12) before it is due in July next year.
It said, in view of the spiking cases of Covid-19, the health of the people and that of the economy would be badly affected if the election is being held during this period.
The statement was jointly issued by State PKR Women chief Agnes Padan and its information chief Umie Liau today.
The duo said they had to bring out the matter after the chief minister had said during the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) convention here last weekend that the election would take place anytime from now.
“The 31 divisions of Sarawak PKR Women unanimously call on the chief minister not to hold the election so soon as the consequences will be great as what had happened in Sabah where Covid-19 cases spiked after their election,” they said, adding that the health of the people is more important than politics.
“We do not want the economy of the state be affected when another lockdown is imposed similar to Sandakan, Papar and Tuaran districts in Sabah.
“That said, the decision of not holding the state election before it is due in July next year, will be a wise move in order to safeguard the people’s health,” they said.-DayakDaily
