Private and public sectors come together for reef cleaning programme in conjunction with Sarawak Day

MIRI, July 7: Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) will organise a second time reef-cleaning programme this July 22, in celebration of this year’s Sarawak Day.

The ‘Sarawak Day Reef Cleaning Campaign 2022’ will take place at the Miri-Sibuti Coral Reefs National Park (MSCRNP).

The activity will engage teams from 19 agencies and organisations including Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), Department of Fisheries Malayska (LKIM), Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Miri City Council (MCC), Miri Resident’s Office, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 6, Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA), Borneo Ghost Net Hunters, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), MSCRNP Special Park Committee members, Kenyalang Underwater Sdn Bhd, Miri Divers, Borneo Dive Network, The Dive Squad, Divers Point & Sports, Persatuan Nelayan Kawasan (PNK), and the Civil Defense Force (APM).

According to SFC in a statement, the July 22 outing would be SFC’s second time organising a reef-cleaning programme after the first in 2020.

“We look forward to cleaning up our coral reefs,” said SFC in the press release which was issued following a meeting on the programme at Piasau Nature Reserve here yesterday.

The upcoming reef clean-up is expected to gather over 50 divers at the coral reef site of the marine park about a 45-minute boat ride from Miri Marina Jetty. — DayakDaily
