Prison detainees at centre of Tembok Limbang Cluster, 14 positive cases so far

KUCHING, Sep 27: Detainees in Limbang Central Prison sparks one of Limbang new clusters identified today with 14 positive cases so far.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a daily Covid-19 report today, said the detention cluster is dubbed as the Tembok Limbang Cluster.

Out of 63 individuals screened from the cluster, 14 of them were found positive including the index case, while 49 other individuals are still waiting for their test results.


Another 334 detainees from the cluster are still in the targeted screening process, and a total of 9 new cases were reported from the cluster today.

For the second cluster in Limbang dubbed as the Melaban Cluster, the Committee said it was identified as a community cluster, involving residents from a longhouse that is located in Melaban of Nanga Medamit.

From the total of 50 individuals tested, 37 of them including the index case were found positive for Covid-19, while 13 other individuals are pending test results, with 28 new cases reported from the cluster today.

According to SDMC, all positive cases from the Tembok Limbang Cluster were brought to Limbang Hospital as well as to the Covid-19 low-risk treatment and quarantine center (PKRC) in Limbang Prison, while for Melaban cluster, the positive cases were brought to Limbang Hospital and PKRC Limbang.

Meanwhile, SDMC said as of today, a total of 117 clusters throughout the State remain active with a total of 81 new cases reported from nine of the clusters.

The nine active clusters that reported new cases are Melaban Cluster (28 new cases), Long Urun Cluster (18), Batu 10 Jalan Oya Cluster (13), Tembok Limbang Cluster (10), Kampung Lintang Baru Cluster (4), Pinang Jawa Cluster (3), Batu 13 Jalan Puncak Borneo Cluster (2), Kampung Simpok Cluster (2), and one case from Industri Jalan Semeba Cluster.

On the same note, the committee also announced the end of five clusters after zero new cases were reported from the clusters in the past 28 days.

The clusters are Sungai Duug Cluster in Serian, Mega Suai Cluster in Subis, Jalan Johari Sunam Cluster in Bintulu, Kampung Matang Lot Cluster in Kuching, and Nanga Tekalit Cluster in Tatau. – DayakDaily
