Prison clusters swell with Tembok Miri recording 120 new Covid-19 cases while Tembok Sri Aman 2 picks up 25 cases

KUCHING, July 22: The Tembok Miri Cluster has swelled to 370 cases after 120 more infections were recorded, while the Tembok Sri Aman 2 Cluster rose to 101 cases after picking up 25 more infections today.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC)’s daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, these two existing prison clusters accounted for nearly a quarter of today’s 644 new Covid-19 cases.

Both the clusters were declared on July 9. At the time, Tembok Miri Cluster which involved the Miri Central Prison had 59 cases and the Tembok Sri Aman 2 Cluster involving the Sri Aman Central Prison had 55 cases out of which 45 comprised foreigners.


As of today, the Tembok Miri Cluster has a total of 365 active cases while the Tembok Sri Aman 2 Cluster has a total of 95 active cases.

Sarawak also declared two new Covid-19 clusters today, dubbed the Abu Bengang Cluster and Ulu Senulau Cluster, both of them involving longhouses under lockdown in Saratok, with 131 cases and 33 cases respectively.

SDMC also declared the end of the Jalan Bintulu-Tatau Cluster in Bintulu after no new cases were recorded in the past 28 days.

With this, the number of active clusters in Sarawak now stands at 94, out of which 12 clusters recorded an increase of 288 cases.

They are the new Abu Bengang Cluster in Saratok which registered 126 new cases, Miri Tembok Cluster in Miri (120 cases), Tembok Sri Aman 2 Cluster in Sri Aman (25 cases), Lumyin Cluster in Telang Usan (4 cases), Kampung Kendaie Cluster in Lundu (4 cases), Lempaong Cluster in Betong (3 cases), while the Pagar Tebedu Cluster in Tebedu, Jalan Teo Kui Ngo Cluster in Meradong, Sentosa 2 Cluster in Kuching, Jalan Selalang Cluster in Sarikei, Po Ai Cluster in Sri Aman and Jalan Demak Laut Cluster in Kuching have one case each. — DayakDaily
