Preparations for Sukma 2024 running smoothly, on schedule

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, June 19: Sarawak’s preparations to organise the upcoming Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 is running smoothly and according to schedule.

Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) reported Sarawak Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah as saying the Sarawak government is currently intensifying work to complete all sports facilities that will be used throughout the games taking place from Aug 17 to 24.

He revealed that only two sports facilities are currently under construction, namely the BMX track and the Sports Village for the Sarawak contingent, while the others are already in the final phase of improvement works.

“For the facilities that are in the final stages, the improvement works only involve toilets, painting and so on.

“Additionally, works on the main arena which is the Sarawak Stadium have been completed,” he was reported as saying after leading the Sarawak government’s delegation to pay a courtesy call on Brunei Darussalam’s Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dato Seri Setia Awang Nazmi Awang Mohamad today.

Abdul Karim further said the new wushu hall is also almost ready where the appointed contractor is working hard to complete it.

In the meantime, he noted that all Chiefs De Mission (CDM) from other state contingents involved in the 21st Sukma will be in Sarawak for three days from June 21 to 23 to attend briefings related to the event.

Earlier, Awang Nazmi said the Brunei Darussalam contingent welcomed the Sarawak government’s invitation to participate in Sukma and has confirmed its participation.

Also present were the Sarawak Deputy Ministers of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu and Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operations) and Sukma 2024 Secretariat chief executive officer Datu Hii Chang Kee, and MYSED permanent secretary Morshidi Fredrick. — DayakDaily
