Premier witnesses inaugural swearing-in of Gedong District Council’s 31 councillors, proposes new facility

KUCHING, March 4: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg witnessed the inaugural swearing-in ceremony of the Gedong District Council’s 31 councillors at Hikmah Exchange today.

Following this, Abang Johari, who is also Gedong assemblyman, announced an ongoing proposal for the construction of a new facility dedicated to the council, providing a designated space for members to convene.

He extended his congratulations to the newly appointed council members and reminded them of the importance of networking with the locals to ensure social development.

Meanwhile, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who was present, expressed his optimism that the newly appointed councillors can collaborate effectively to ensure efficient development and delivery of municipal services.

“As we witness the swearing-in of our new councillors, let us pledge our support and cooperation, knowing that together, we can overcome any challenge and chart a course towards a better tomorrow,” said Dr Sim, also the Minister For Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Sarawak.

The recent inclusion of the Gedong District Council brings the total of local councils in Sarawak to 27, alongside the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) and Bintulu Development Authority (BDA). — DayakDaily
