Premier urges S’wakian children to take up aerospace studies, turn Sarawak into high-tech region

KUCHING, July 28: Sarawakian children have been urged to envisage taking up aerospace studies and entering the industry to turn Sarawak into a high-tech region.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said i-CATS University College—a Sarawak-owned higher learning institutions—is offering a new aerospace degree programme at its aerospace faculty.

“The programme will deliberate on technology related to chip-making particularly avionics.

“The second component is the aircraft while the third component is drones and finally, we want to be active in satellite communication.

“This is something new and we want all anak Sarawak to be able to study in this new field and develop Sarawak as a high-tech country (region),” he said when speaking at a dinner to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Teochew Sim Clan Association held at Pullman Hotel here earlier tonight.

Abang Johari also stressed the importance of education where he believed that if the Sarawakian children study hard, they would be able to contribute to society and raise people out of poverty.

At the same time, he congratulated the clan association for their contributions to develop Sarawak’s economy since before the formation of Malaysia.

Also present were Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; Sarawak Teochew Sim Clan Association president Sim Moh Khian; and Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (SHEDA) Kuching Division chairman Dato Sim Kiang Chiok. — DayakDaily
