ABU DHABI, Nov 7: Asian countries must establish bilateral or multilateral policy frameworks that will create understanding and uniformity to ensure orderly and progressive cross-border renewable energy trade, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to a press release, he emphasised that there should be a standard that can be adopted by all countries for matters such as transportation methods for commodities, tariffs and standards.

He expressed confidence that with a uniform standard and a reduction in hydrogen production costs, the hydrogen industry will establish itself and grow based on supply and demand.

He also added that research must be intensified to develop technologies that will lower the cost of hydrogen production.

“I am confident there will be a shift to hydrogen in industry and transportation systems if the cost decreases,” he said as a panellist during a discussion session titled “Asia’s Role in Defining the Hydrogen Market” at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition Conference (ADIPEC) 2024 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday (Nov 6).

After the panel discussion, Abang Johari witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Sarawak government through Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and Mubadala Investment Company to conserve mangrove forest areas in Sarawak.
