KUCHING, Aug 16: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at and launch the Borneo International Water & Wastewater Exhibition & Conference (BIWWEC) taking place on Oct 17-19 at Imperial Hotel Kuching.
According to a press release, the Premier will also deliver a conference speech during the opening of the conference and exhibition.
“With the theme ‘Sustainability & Resilience Through Smart Technology and Innovation’, the fifth instalment of BIWWEC this year has been revamped and has grown substantially since its beginnings in 2011 and throughout the pandemic in 2020 and 2021.
“We are proud to be Sarawak’s only international congregation of water and wastewater experts, and we look forward to working on active solutions and synergistic efforts to overcome challenges of water and wastewater needs in Borneo,” said Chang Kuet Shian, director of Rural Water Supply Department of Sarawak and organising chairman of BIWWEC 2022.
“We are happy that our exhibition booths for this year are all sold out as we expect an estimated 300 local and international delegates,” he added.
Organised by the Malaysian Water Association (MWA) Sarawak Branch, the conference and exhibition will feature 30 Malaysian and international speakers and 40 exhibitors comprising professionals in the area of water, wastewater, and relevant industries.
Among the confirmed exhibitors joining BIWWEC 2022 are WEIDA, Empayar Setia, Exxor, Weidasar, AFC Valve, Pansar, Cipta Wawasan Maju, and many more.
According to Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi at the event launch in May, the State government is only 16.4 per cent short of achieving full coverage of water supply for the whole State.
“We are implementing various programmes to achieve this goal, including the State Water Grid and the Sarawak Alternative Water Supply (Sawas) programme.
“Whereas for wastewater management, the State is implementing several centralised wastewater management systems for the major cities and towns of Sarawak.
“BIWWEC 2022 serves as a platform to discuss and explore new innovations and technologies from local and international industry which can be customised to improve the water and wastewater system in Sarawak, both in the urban and rural areas,” said Julaihi.
BIWWEC 2022 will feature a three-day conference programme with notable speakers, workshops, panel discussions, networking sessions, site tour programmes, and more. Delegates will also be accorded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours when attending the conference.
