KUCHING, July 21: It has been proven that Sarawak is ahead of other states in Peninsular Malaysia and other regions in Southeast Asia in discovering potential solutions to fight climate change which is line with the 2015 Paris Agreement, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Through the implementation of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, he said, Sarawak is now actively exploring hydrogen economy, development of renewable energy including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from algae and solar, Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) as well as carbon trading.
Therefore, he called for unity aligned with the ‘Segulai Sejala’ spirit among Sarawakians who are multi-racial and multi-religious as sustainable economic development can only be achieved in a politically stable and socially peaceful environment.
“On this occasion, I would like to invite all Sarawakians to take a moment to remember the sacrifices of previous leaders who fought for Sarawak’s independence 60 years ago.
“Their struggle was simply to ensure that Sarawak is free from colonial power and replaced with Sarawak’s freedom to govern itself and the power to determine its own future,” he said in conjunction with Sarawak Day and Sarawak’s 60th anniversary celebration set to be held tomorrow (July 22).
Meanwhile, Abang Johari remarked that the passion for Sarawak’s independence has never faded even after 60 years, but it continues to be strengthened through the efforts of today’s leaders with the solid support of Sarawakians.
“The 60 years that have passed since achieving independence from the British is an era to fill this independence so that the freedom that has been achieved becomes something meaningful to Sarawak and its people,” he added. — DayakDaily
