“I hope the project can start next year as the funding has already been allocated,” he said when officiating the school’s 75th anniversary celebration at the school here today.

Abang Johari further said while he supported the proposed construction of a mini stadium at the school, he highlighted that half of the land should be designated for drainage and irrigation system to prevent flooding.

“The stadium can be built but some of the land should be allocated to construct a retention pond.

“Apart from serving as a water storage facility, the pond will be integrated with lighting and a fountain, becoming a scenic landscape feature in the school.

“With this approach, SK Rakyat Tupong could rival Sarawak Stadium in terms of aesthetic appeal,” he added.

At the event, Abang Johari also announced an allocation of RM75,000 to the SK Rakyat Tupong Alumni Association.

Also present were Sarawak Attorney General (SAG) Dato Sri Saferi Ali, Chief Political Secretary and Tupong assemblyman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor Hilmy Othman and SK Rakyat Tupong Alumni Association chairman Awang Hambali Awang Hamdan. — DayakDaily
