KUCHING, Jan 14: The Sarawak government is turning homeownership into a reality for many families through an initiative that allows them to purchase homes valued at RM300,000 for as low as RM120,000, underscoring its commitment to providing affordable housing.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg explained that under this initiative, the State government absorbs the costs of infrastructure development, including land embankments, utilities, and road construction, ensuring these expenses are not included in the final price of the homes.
To further assist aspiring homeowners, financial support is available through Mutiara Mortgage and Finance for homes priced between RM120,000 and RM250,000.
In addition, a land premium of only RM2,500 applies, with the government providing a RM10,000 deposit for eligible buyers.
“This means that buyers will only need to pay the remaining balance.
“The government’s initiative ensures families can own a single house with three bedrooms, providing enough space for a family,” he explained during a townhall session marking his 8th anniversary as Premier, held at the Hikmah Exchange and Event Centre (HEEC) last night (Jan 13).
According to Abang Johari, the commercial value of these houses, factoring in land and infrastructure, is estimated at RM300,000.
“However, under this government scheme, families will pay as little as RM120,000, with the balance subsidised by the State under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) administration,” he added. – DayakDaily
