KUCHING, May 16: The review of the preschool curriculum and the push to enhance teacher quality mark a key milestone in Sarawak’s mission to cultivate a highly knowledgeable society.
In a TVS report, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that by doing so, the State will be ready to navigate future challenges based on technology and innovation.
He said that focusing on early childhood education is a strategic step by the Sarawak government to face the challenges of technology and global change.
“I’ve already asked Minister for Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah to review the kindergarten syllabus and the overall quality of our teachers at every level because that’s where it all begins—shaping a person from the very start,” he said.
He said this at the ‘Majlis Malam Berambeh Segulai Sejalai’ in conjunction with the 54th National Teachers’ Day 2025 celebration held here on Thursday night (May 15).
He also highlighted the importance of knowledge as the foundation of civilisation and future survival, especially in an increasingly complex world with various uncertainties.
“If we want to contribute towards carbon mitigation and replacing fossil fuels, we must have strength in science,” he said, referring to Sarawak’s initiative to develop hydrogen technology as an alternative energy source.
Abang Johari stressed that the State government would continue to strengthen Sarawak’s education ecosystem from the early childhood stage to higher education as part of a long-term investment in building a highly knowledgeable society.
“Education has no boundaries; it is our responsibility to educate the community with the latest knowledge to face life and elevate human dignity itself,” he said.
