KUCHING, Aug 19: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg proposed a collaboration with Fudan University in China to produce herbal medicine from Sarawak’s biodiversity.
Abang Johari said China is well-versed in the medicinal field, and Borneo is rich in biodiversity.
“We can explore to produce certain medicine that can sort of be a way for us to cure any potential disease,” he said at International Chinese Muslim Conference (ICMC) 2023 held at Waterfront Hotel earlier tonight.
Abang Johari said he is optimistic that both sides can collaborate since Sarawak has also set up the RM200 million Sarawak Infectious Disease Center (SIDC) in Kota Samarahan, which Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian heads.
“I think Malaysia and Sarawak can engage with the university to explore the possibility of researching our biodiversity,” he added. — DayakDaily
