KUCHING, Apr 27: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg paid his last respects to the late Datin Patinggi Puan Sri Dr Jane Yong Sau Kan, the widow of the late former Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak and former president of the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai, today.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the Premier arrived at approximately 3.20pm at the family residence along Jalan Tabuan here, where he was received by her two children, Dr Wong Chee May and Wong Chee Ling.
Abang Johari’s presence was also a mark of appreciation and respect for the late Dr Yong’s significant contributions to society.
Dr Yong passed away at the age of 100 on April 25. She breathed her last at 7.51am today at her residence near Jalan Tabuan, surrounded by her loved ones.
Throughout her life, she has steadfastly supported her husband’s political journey, particularly after he joined SUPP in 1978, and she was also known for her devotion to her family, society, and party.
The late Dr Yong is scheduled to be laid to rest at Nirvana Memorial Park in Bau on April 28. — DayakDaily
