According to an obituary notice circulated today, the encoffining service will be held on Tuesday (April 28) at 7.30am, followed by a funeral service at 8am.

Thereafter, her remains will be taken to Nirvana Memorial Park along Bau Road for cremation.

She is survived by her three children, Dr Wong Chee Liang, Dr Wong Chee May and Wong Chee Lin, as well as her grandchildren.

Beyond her role as the wife of Dr Wong Soon Kai, who was also president of the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Dr Yong played a key role in helping the party reclaim its three Sibu shop lots in 2017 by serving as a witness despite being unwell at the time.

True to her humility, she insisted that the honour of receiving the Sa’ati Lifetime Loyalty and Dedication Award last year belonged solely to her late husband, accepting it only in his name. — DayakDaily
