KUCHING, Oct 22: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stressed that his meetings with environmental experts from around the world is not for himself but to uplift the image of Sarawak.

He said it was true that he had gone to several countries this year to deliberate on the new economy including the hydrogen industry with world experts.

This included his visit to Rotterdam, the Netherlands to attend the World Hydrogen 2022 Summit and Exhibition in May, invitation by the South Korean government to meet with hydrogen economy industry leaders and investors last month, and taking part in a hydrogen forum in Tokyo, Japan early this month.

“Next week I will become a guest speaker (on green energy) for the Singapore government where I will be bringing the Sarawak’s fire torch.

“(The torch is) not Abang Jo’s, but that of Sarawak which has a far-sighted view on global issues such as climate change and the new economy,” he said when officiating the Sarawak Youth Day 2022 celebration held at Dataran Perayaan in Petra Jaya here today.

Abang Johari further called upon Sarawakian youths to join hands with the Sarawak government to drive the development of the region.

“We want to develop our talents in all fields including volunteerism, economic development, sports, creative industry and music.

“When we have such talents, insya-Allah by 2030, Sarawak will become the most developed State in Malaysia with a high income.

“Let the torch of Sarawak remain strong and that her voice is heard by Putrajaya through a large victory in the 15th General Election (GE15),” he urged.

Amongst those present were Sarawak Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu, and Deputy Minister for Entrepreneur Development Dr Ripin Lamat. — DayakDaily
