KUCHING, July 2: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has declined to disclose the agenda or purpose of the upcoming one-day special sitting of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUNS), scheduled for July 7.
“The Speaker (Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar) will announce the agenda during the pre-council meeting ahead of the sitting,” he told reporters briefly after officiating the Sarawak Media Conference 2025 at Sheraton Hotel today.
This follows the June 20 announcement that the DUNS would convene a special sitting under Standing Order 8(3), following an official request from the Premier.
The announcement has sparked widespread speculation, including suggestions that a bill to propose the addition of 15 parliamentary and 17 state constituencies might be tabled.
However, on June 25, Mohamad Asfia clarified that no Bills had been submitted for the sitting.
He did not rule out the possibility that matters related to the redelineation of State and Parliamentary constituencies could be brought forward.
The upcoming session comes less than two months after the Assembly last adjourned on May 28, indicating that the Sarawak government may be addressing urgent matters requiring legislative attention and approval.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and Ukas) Datuk Abdullah Saidol were among the distinguished guests present at the event. — DayakDaily
