Premier meets 5 Japan’s key organisations to strengthen cooperation, investments in Sarawak

TOKYO, Dec 16: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg intensified efforts to enhance cooperation and investment opportunities between Sarawak and Japan by attending five high-level meetings at a prominent hotel here today.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the meetings focused on fostering partnerships in critical sectors such as oil and gas, carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), minerals, project financing, industrial development, and other related fields.

The Premier’s first meeting was with ENEOS Corporation and JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation, followed by a session with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).

He also engaged with Sumitomo Corporation, the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC), and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) to explore strategic collaborations.

Accompanying the Premier were Malaysia’s Ambassador to Japan, Dato’ Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry, and Investment Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, and Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

Other notable officials included Sarawak Attorney General Dato Sri Saferi Ali, Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, and senior Sarawak government representatives.

Tomorrow (Dec 17), the Premier is scheduled to meet with Boeing Japan to discuss opportunities in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and related research and development projects. – DayakDaily
