KUCHING, March 28: Luconia Shoals in Sarawak has the most oil and gas fields in the country.
According to Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, apart from that, in Balingian’s waters, three new oil fields has also been discovered earlier this year.
“In terms of oil and gas, based on statistics, Sarawak has 62 per cent of the country’s gas reserves and 29 per cent of the total crude oil in Malaysia,” he said.
Abang Johari said this in his speech when attending a networking dinner by Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) and the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (NCCIM) held at a local hotel here tonight.
On the oil fields located in Luconia Shoals, Abang Johari pointed out that it is on the continental shelf that belongs to Sarawak under the Constitution.
“So we have our say because Sarawak has been given the autonomy to handle its oil and gas distribution by the federal government since 2016,” he said. ― DayakDaily
