KUCHING, June 10: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will lead the 268-strong Sarawak Merdeka Convoy for a distance of 168.3 kilometres from Miri to Bintulu today.
The convoy, consisting of 56 vehicles, 81 motorcycles and eight buses, departed from Miri Indoor Stadium at 9.45am this morning.
Sending off the convoy was Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Joining Abang Johari for the trip was Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who is also minister responsible for the event.
Among those present during the flagging off ceremony were Minister of Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Malaysian Deputy Minister of Health and Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
During the journey, the convoy will make several stops where Abang Johari and his entourage will have the opportunity to meet and interact with the local community, fostering the spirit of unity and patriotism as Sarawak celebrates its 60 years of independence within Malaysia this year.
The first stop will be at Pantai Bungai, Subis, before proceeding to Kampung Nyalau in Bintulu.
Upon reaching Bintulu, an additional 60 vehicles, including the bikersā community, 4WD groups, government agencies, and the private sector, will join the convoy from Kampung Nyalau to continue the journey to the next stop at Bintuluās Naim Street Mall.
Abang Johari will officiate the digital exhibition for the Bintulu Division and witness the handover of the Sarawak flag and the Sarawak 60 Years Independence flag from Miri Division Resident Jamalie Busri to Bintulu Division Resident Nyurak Keti.
Abang Johari is also scheduled to officiate a community dinner at Parkcity Everly Hotel in the evening. ā DayakDaily
