KUCHING, June 14: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasises the need for law enforcement agencies to take into account necessary legislative changes so that appropriate legal action and penalties can be taken against serious financial crimes in the State.
Abang Johari expressed his belief that the State can effectively combat financial crime by implementing integrated enforcement and prevention measures, rather than relying on enforcement actions by a single agency or working in silos.
“The Sarawak government will continue to cooperate fully with all law enforcement agencies involved in integrated enforcement efforts.
“This includes sharing information needed for high-impact financial crime analysis and investigation.
“I am convinced that we can have a greater impact on financial crime operations through integrated enforcement and prevention actions, as opposed to enforcement actions carried out by a single agency or in silos,” he said in his speech before today’s launch of the Financial Crimes Collaboration and Prevention Seminar at a hotel here.
In addition to the commitment of the Sarawak government, the Premier also requested that law enforcement agencies, including the National Financial Crime Prevention Centre (NFCC), continue to prioritise the agenda for combating financial crime in Sarawak.
The Financial Crimes Collaboration and Prevention Seminar is jointly organised by NFCC, Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN), and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).
Among others present at the event were Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK) Sarawak minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah and NFCC director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali. — DayakDaily
