KUCHING, Dec 7: The Islamic community, particularly member nations of the Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of East Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP), must adapt to economic transformations and technological advancements to strengthen their economic foundation and social standing, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Abang Johari, who is also the president of RISEAP, urged Muslim communities, especially minorities, to elevate their economic status and play a leading role in building stable societies.
He noted that this progress is key to becoming a respected and integral part of their broader communities.
Citing an example of Artificial Intelligence (AI), he said that the technology has greatly simplified work, improved results, products, increased talent potential and reduced human error.
“Therefore, we need to accept the fact that AI technology has brought many changes to every aspect of our lives,” he said during opening ceremony of the 20th RISEAP General Assembly held in Cambodia on Dec 7.
During the event, Abang Johari also emphasised that RISEAP will continue focusing on six cores with the main mission being to apply the basic principles of Islam.
He also said the council believe that every Muslim must uphold the constitution of the country they live in and respect the country’s culture and religion.
Apar from that, he also said the Muslim community in the RISEAP region needs to take a firm stance in rejecting extremism and work together and unite with other communities to confront it.
“By promoting interfaith understanding and working closely with other religious groups, member states of RISEAP can demonstrate how Islam is inclusive and promotes peace and goodwill in the context of multi-faith societies,” he said. — DayakDaily
