Premier confirms MASwings acquisition finalised, signing within a month

KUCHING, Jan 13: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has confirmed that the State government will be taking over MASwings airline, with the official signing ceremony expected to take place within a month.

Speaking to reporters in a door-step interview, he revealed that the status of the MASwings acquisition has been finalised after the Sarawak government and Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) reached a consensus on asset valuations.

“This means we are taking over, and soon there will be a signing (ceremony).

“It will happen within a month, before Ramadan. Possibly in Kuching,” he said after delivering his keynote address at the Majlis Amanat Perdana held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

When asked about the new name for the airline, he replied, “We will announce it after the signing.”

On the value of assets involved in the acquisition, Abang Johari stated, “We are taking over at a price agreed upon by both parties.” – DayakDaily
