KUCHING, March 30: When it comes to resolving differences, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has called upon Sarawakians to prioritise unity and harmony so as not to threaten what has been long built.

In his Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025 message, Abang Johari also urged Sarawakians not to get caught up in arguments about religion and race and not to get involved in trivial issues, as often happens in other places.

He added that Sarawak’s strength lies in the diversity of its people and emphasised that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) looks after not just the interests of Muslims, but also those of other religions through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR).

“The development and progress of Islam is emphasised based on the principles of ‘maqasid’ syariah, which safeguards every good and rejects all evil. Many beautiful mosques have been built throughout Sarawak to provide comfort to Muslims when worshipping.

“Places of worship for other religions are also given attention through UNIFOR, as all religions have the right to have a comfortable space to fulfill their respective religious obligations,” he said.

Abang Johari added that the spirit of unity in Sarawak is due to the joint efforts of all Sarawakians to practise harmony and mutual respect among one another while also knowing how to preserve it.

“I sincerely hope that we always strive to create understanding between fellow Muslims, as well as between Muslims and other communities in Sarawak.

“Even if there are differences of opinion and views on certain issues, we must immediately resolve them in a way that will not harm the unity of the people that we have built together for so long,” he said.

Before ending his message, he extended an invitation to all to attend his and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang’s open house on the first and second day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

“In conjunction with this auspicious day and auspicious month, I pray that the harmony and unity of the people of Sarawak will continue to be preserved because understanding between the diverse communities in this Land of the Hornbill is a pillar of development in this era full of challenges and renewal.

“All our energy and efforts must be directed towards building a prosperous Sarawak with sustainable development.

“Finally, on behalf of Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani and me, I once again wish Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all Muslims in Sarawak and throughout the country.” — DayakDaily
