SIBU, Jan 11: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg calls for Sarawakians to step boldly into the digital age and adapt to technology, particularly through the use of the Sarawak Pay (S Pay Global) e-wallet application, which serves as the main platform for distributing the Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance (SKAS).

In a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), Abang Johari also emphasised the importance of digital technology education.

He hoped that these efforts would empower Sarawakians to become more tech-savvy while ensuring their welfare through digital initiatives like SKAS.

He also expressed confidence that although there may still be doubts, the people of Sarawak have the ability to master this technology as evident during the Covid-19 pandemic when everyone transitioned to digital platforms with ease and efficiency.

“Many say they don’t know how to use S-Pay, but just try it first. It was the same during Covid-19, where everyone switched to online platforms.

“When we try, we will learn. Even fishmongers mastered it, so never underestimate the intelligence of our people,” he said.

He made these remarks while officiating the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Central Zone Delegates’ Meeting here today.

SKAS provides one-time assistance ranging from RM250 to RM800 per year, depending on the recipient’s eligibility category, which includes single individuals, households, and senior citizens.

Based on data from the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), a total of 886,288 individuals are eligible to receive SKAS, with the total assistance amounting to RM464.5 million.

Also present at the event were Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Federal Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, and other distinguished guests. — DayakDaily
