SIBU, April 4: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has greenlighted a special allocation of RM1.5 million for the Iban community in the Bawang Assan constituency.
This was revealed by Community Development Team Leader of the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch, Councilor Kevin Lau Kor Jie, today.
He said that the special allocation is through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) which will be used to upgrade infrastructure facilities such as parking lots, wooden bridges, roads and so on, for longhouses.
“With this allocation, we will give projects fairly to the residents of longhouses such as in Bawang Assan, Tanjung Penasu, Sungai Aup, Bukit Besai, Sebedil, Pasai and so on within these two years,” he said.
Lau told this to the media after attending a Randau Session at Rumah Nuing Tugau, Sungai Tebelian near here, today.
He said, his team will go to the ground to identify the projects needed by the people.
He explained that the main focus of the project is in terms of infrastructure because it will provide many benefits to the residents.
Lau expressed his deepest appreciation to Abang Johari and also Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian who is also SUPP president, for the allocation.
In addition, he said, his team will play a more important role in uniting all the communities in Bawang Assan which consist of Iban, Chinese and Malays.
“We will also work with all GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) components, especially with our friends from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bawang Assan to further strengthen this unity so that development in this area runs smoothly.
“We at SUPP also do not only serve one race but all regardless of background and religion,” he said.
The State government had previously approved a special RTP allocation of RM1 million to upgrade eight roads and another RM400,000 to upgrade the bridge in Paradom which is a Chinese community area in the Bawang Assan constituency.
Among those present were the Political Secretary to the Premier and chairman of PBB Bawang Assan Branch Romeo Christopher Tegong and Penghulu Dennis Ansam. ā DayakDaily
