GEDONG, June 30: A spur road with a total length of 5.8km will be built connecting the peripheral areas of Gedong including Kampung Semalatong, Kampung Kepayang, Kampung Batu Pengasah and Kampung Munggu Lallang.
Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg noted that the Sarawak government is currently constructing a road project from Gedong to Kampung Semalatong.
“Earlier, I have added an extra work of constructing a spur road connecting the Gedong-Semalatong road to Kampung Kepayang and Munggu Lallang up to Batu Pengasah. This will be about 5.8km.
“This means the peripheral areas of Gedong will be connected directly to Gedong district where we will establish Gedong District Council to provide effective service to the people,” he said during presentation ceremony of korban meat in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha held at Kampung Gedong here today.
Abang Johari, who is also Gedong assemblyman further explained that the spur road serves as an extension road of the Gedong-Semalatong project which would provide connectivity to the local longhouses.
“Apart from that, we will continue to provide water supply through the new road with new water pipe system,” he added.
In a report dated May 20, 2023, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has informed that Gedong-Semalatong Road project worth RM250 million is expected to complete in three years.
The 26km road project will include construction of two bridges along the route and will reduce travel distance between the two areas as well as to neighbouring towns. — DayakDaily
