KUCHING, April 8: TV Sarawak (TVS) will have its own dedicated building by 2027, in time for Sarawak’s role as co-host of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games that year, said Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) news report, Abang Johari said the upcoming facility will be built near the Baitul Makmur Building in Petra Jaya and will be equipped with advanced studio infrastructure to support live broadcasts of SEA Games events across participating ASEAN countries.

“We hope the new building will be completed by 2027 because we will be part of the host for the SEA Games 2027, and of course, TVS will be responsible for live coverage of events taking place in Sarawak.

“That’s why we want the building to be ready, complete with advanced studio facilities to enable live broadcasts to participating countries including Indonesia, Singapore, and other member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN),” he said during the 2025 TVS Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri event held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

The Premier added that the location, near the Sarawak Performing Arts Centre at the former Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) site, will also support large-scale cultural events and live concerts, further boosting Sarawak’s creative industry.

“This is part of our investment to develop local youth talents who are enriched by the unique and diverse cultures of our multiracial society.

“It shows that our focus is not only on broadcasting as a business model, but also on becoming a platform to develop home-grown talents,” he said.

Abang Johari also congratulated TVS for expanding its reach to audiences in Peninsular Malaysia.

Also present at the event were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and several other state ministers and senior officials. — DayakDaily
