SEBUYAU, Aug 18: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated at the launch of the new Al-Muflihin Mosque here today.
The new mosque, which is built on a parcel of land 17-acres wide was meant to replace the old mosque, which was damaged due to a landslide in 2009.
The construction of the mosque began in 2015 and was completed last year.
The new mosque can accommodate 1,000 worshippers in the main prayer space and 1,200 worshippers at the foyer area, at any one time.
Abang Johari shared that he was asked by the religious authorities to do the honour in selecting the name of the mosque.
“I have no background knowledge in Arabic but the name which was suggested to me was ‘Al-Muflihin’, which means a successful person.
“InsyaAllah the Sebuyau folk will continue to become successful,” he said when officiating at the opening ceremony of the Mosque broadcast live by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) on Facebook.
Among those present were Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi; Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Utility) and Deputy Minister in charge of Islamic affairs, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) president Datu Misnu Taha and Samarahan Resident Irwan Bahari Bujang. — DayakDaily
